Ephemera 22: Gold Diggers of 1933

  • Summary

  • It's our second anniversary show! And what a show it is. After Take Me Out to the Ball Game, we decided we needed to take a little break from MGM in the forties, so we turned our eyes to Warner Brothers in the 1930s. Vive la différence! We've got sex! We've got frank discussions of poverty! We have explicitly Jewish characters! New, new, new! Of course, we do have plenty of old involved, Busby Berkeley, Guy Kibbee, Harry Warren, all our friends from our journeys together, but in fresh contexts, with plenty of surprises along the way! Anyway, this is literally one of the best considered, most important musicals ever made, so it just made sense to save it for our big occasion. Gold Diggers. It's really, really good.
