Ep 386: Are parents to blame for young people gambling?

  • Summary

  • This morning (7th November 2024) the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) published its official statistics for “Young People and Gambling 2024.”

This release marks the fourth dataset, providing insights into “young people’s exposure to and involvement in gambling” in the 12 months leading up to the report. As well as indicating the “impact gambling can have on them”.

At the head of the table in today’s episode of iGaming Daily, supported by Optimove, is Ted Memuir (Content Director at SBC) and he’s joined by Steve Hoare (Editor of the SBC Leaders magazine and the Player Protection Hub) and Dan Waugh (Partner at Regulus Partners) to break down the report, and its impacts.

In the first half of the podcast, the trio give their initial reactions to the report, and analyse its comparatives to the adult survey as well as its subsequent findings. After the break, the panel discusses the wider impact these surveys can have, and contemplate the future for research in its most recent state.
