Ep #12 - Getting the most from your benefits plan

  • Summary

  • This week we are talking all about health benefits at work. Because let's be real, navigating the world of health insurance can be as confusing as trying to explain Blockbuster to your 10 year old niece. In my previous work life, I managed and developed a health plan for both Canada and the US, and before then I missed out on so many things! So we will share some tips and insight on how to make the most of your benefits.

So, when you look at your total compensation at your job, a big part is the cost of your health benefits, especially in the US. Employers pay on average $15,000 per year in the US, and It’s much less, approx $4000 per year in Canada. And that is an average, so some more, some less.

Benefits are also highly under utilized, most people use them reactively instead of proactively. When you get injured or sick, but there is so much more that they are there for.

So sit back, relax, and let's get started on this journey to health benefits enlightenment. Because hey, who doesn't want to save some money and avoid a headache when it comes to healthcare?
