Ellery Queen 47 09 07 Number 31

  • Summary

  • Ellery Queen was a radio detective program in the United States. Several iterations of the program appeared on different networks, with the first one broadcast on CBS June 18, 1939, and the last on ABC May 27, 1948. The show featured Hugh Marlowe as Ellery Queen, Santos Ortega as his father Richard Queen, and Marian Shockley as Nikki Porter. The show's format was that a mystery would be dramatized, but then interrupted when a panel of celebrities would attempt to solve it. The panel would usually be wrong in their solutions, and the show would end with Ellery Queen revealing the correct solution. The Adventures of Ellery Queen was a popular show, and it won an Edgar Award for Best Radio Drama in 1941. It was also one of the first radio shows to feature a celebrity panel, which became a familiar format in later years. In addition to The Adventures of Ellery Queen, there were two other radio shows based on the Ellery Queen character:
    • The Further Adventures of Ellery Queen, which ran for 33 episodes from 1958 to 1959 on NBC.
    • Ellery Queen's Minute Mysteries, which ran for 130 episodes from 1950 to 1955 on CBS.
The Ellery Queen radio shows are still popular today, and they can be found on many streaming services. They are a terrific way to experience the classic detective stories of Ellery Queen, and they are sure to keep you guessing until the very end.
