  • Episode 6: JIFs, Greed, and Batmen
    Jun 14 2023

This episode is a continuation of our sit down with our Friends Jake & Barret from earlier this year. While in the last episode, we discussed all things musical, this time around, we're covering a swath of topics, including a debate about the correct pronunciation of the abbreviation for Graphics Interchange Format, the current hyper-greed-driven mentality in creative spheres from both a corporate level and individual level, and the many faces of Batman.

We get all over the place in this one, and it makes for some truly wonderful conversation. There's still one episode left in our chat with Jake & Barrett, and this is an entertaining segway between it and our previous Musical and upcoming Marvel talk. Also, it is the official stance of the Eclectic Podcast that GIF is pronounced with a hard g, despite what Barrett and Wilhite would have anyone believe.

  • Episode 5: We Are Alive with the Sound of Musicals
    May 4 2023

Admittedly, The Sound of Music doesn't actually get mentioned much, but we do talk a lot about musicals on this special episode of The Eclectic Podcast.

For this special event, we have some guest appearances joining three-fourths of your original crew as we discuss our favourite musicals. We take some deep dives into both the music side and the plot/writing side with this discussion, and, of course, we have a few obscure takes on the entire topic. We don't just stop at films you'll see on TV, though. In this chat, we go into live performances we've witnessed, some that members of the discussion have been a part of, and we naturally get sidetracked on the topic of music in general.

Rion completely misses some SpongeBob references because his headset didn't pick up the audio. He also gaffs on a High School Musical bit, and one of our guests has a rather comical realization about a song many may not know comes from a musical in real-time. Suffice it to say, this may be our most eclectic episode yet... For now.

  • Episode 4: Marvel Phase 4, and Why Evan is Still Defending It
    Apr 6 2023

We're back again in full order, but this time we're talking about our latest Marvel Cinematic Universe thoughts. To be clear, though, in this situation, "latest" means our thoughts in the Summer of 2022. We recorded this section the same day as our Stranger Things discussion, but we wanted to bring it to you now as Marvel finds itself in a strange place post-Quantumania.

In this episode, Evan is ever apologetic for Marvel, Kevin Feige, and Disney in general, while Tiff and Rion are largely in disagreement. Margaret remains on somewhat neutral-leaning-positive ground with some nuanced observations about the entirety of Phase 4. In hindsight, some takes are proven right well others don't hold up. It makes for decent reflections on the trajectory of the MCU.

This was recorded before any of us saw Thor: Love & Thunder, Wakanda Forever, or Quantumania. We will have some additional content post-L&T and WF viewing in the not-too-distant future, and once (if) we all watch the divisive entry that is Quantumania, we might just revisit the topic once more.
