EP10 - Stuart Pearce on Despair

  • Summary

  • Stuart has a special place in the hearts of English sports fans. A one-time electrician, playing football for non-league Wealdstone, he rose to prominence under the legendary Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest, before spells with Newcastle and Manchester City. Known as “Psycho” for his emotion, his passion and his unforgiving style on the pitch, he won 78 caps for England, and is perhaps best remembered for his contrasting penalties at two major Championships: The overwhelming despair of the now legendary World Cup semi-final of 1990, and the subsequent joy of the shoot-out in England’s exhilarating quarter-final at Euro ’96. .........................................
