EP 9. MFM AKA Marc Frank Montoya Part 2 - Stonie's Buds

  • Summary

  • In High School Young Marco would walk the hall's with a chip on his shoulder. He learned fast you had to look out for number 1 and that was it. Everyone had their own agenda, there was no real reason to say much to others as he walked the halls as the other people had nothing to offer him nor did he have anything say to them in the first place. Inner city life in Denver did not have much to offer kids like him except the lead role in a gang of skateboarder veto's. Each member would eventually get a gun and eventually be in prison. This was a very real path Marco could have went down with a very real reality for him and he was not nieve to this fact.
Thank fully a friend of his approached him and complemented him on his stake board skills saying he is good enough to get sponsored. No one had ever lifted Marco up like this. It was something new and built up a new found confidence. His friend was a Filmer and eventually introduced Marc to snowboarding. He had never seen anything like this. He didn't know anything like this existed and fell in love with snowboarding, he quickly used it as a vehicle to change his surroundings, not only spending more time out of his old city life that would for sure lead to hard times and prison he was now spending his time in the mountains surrounded by rich white skiers "dressed like goobers". He was now getting a full taste of Mountain living, People going out the way to help one another . People seemed to genully care about one another, Marc fully believes his friend Kelly who introduced this to him and gave him the confidence to push himself in the sport was guided by a spiritual hand put in his life for the simple act of steering him away from the bad scene waiting in Denver.

Listen as Marco tell's his story as he goes from inner city life to becoming one of the largest pro's in his time with a unique style that many will argue is the best style our sport has ever seen. Marco showed all kids growing up in cities far from the mountains that it is ossible to break the cycle and change their surroundings and also get up into the mountains and try snowboarding. They did not have to dress like a ski racer they could wear baggie gear and have that same flavor Marco had. Marco opened doors and introduced our sport and culture to other's that were just like Marco, kids that figured the sport was not for them as they had never seen someone like them do it. Until now. Until MFM!!!
