EP 29 - Pritilata Vaddedar

  • Summary

  • Put in the list of ‘most wanted’ revolutionaries. Pritilata was a promising nationalist revolutionary of Bengal. ‘Dogs and Indians are not allowed.’ This was such a blow to the pride of Indians, the pain of which is still visible even today. Then it was the revolutionary Pritilata and her fellow revolutionaries who, taking revenge for the insult, destroyed that club in 1932. That European club was burnt by 21 year old Pritilata; Took poison, didn't get caught. It was the day of 23 September 1932, when Pritilata Waddedar and many other revolutionaries were assigned the responsibility of attacking the Pahartali European Club and destroying it. Under this, Pritilata was made the leader of a group of 40 people. To carry out the mission, Pritilata herself disguised herself as a Punjabi and the rest of her companions wore shirts and lungis. At around 10:45 pm the revolutionaries surrounded the club and set it on fire. One woman and four men also died during this period.Pritilata was injured by the bullet. To avoid being captured by the British, he took a potassium cyanide pill. His sacrifice at the young age of 21 served as an inspiration for other revolutionaries in Bengal.
