  • Championing Change: Isaac's Fight Against Gender-Based Violence - Isaac Adeyemo
    Jul 3 2024

I had the privilege of interviewing Isaac, the founder and executive director of Mordacai Care Foundation of Nigerian MoCA Fund. Isaac shared a deeply personal story from his teenage years that shaped his dedication to advocating for women and gender-based violence survivors. Witnessing his father's abuse towards his mother ignited a passion within Isaac to fight against gender-based violence and uplift underserved communities.

Isaac's organization has been actively involved in advocating for women's rights and supporting survivors of gender-based violence for over 10 years. Through their work, they have taken numerous cases to court, provided mediation between survivors and perpetrators, and established community response teams to address violence effectively.

One of the key issues Isaac highlighted was the prevalence of poverty as a contributing factor to gender-based violence. He emphasized the importance of empowering women economically and increasing female representation in government to combat gender inequality.

Isaac also shared insights into their approach to engaging traditional communities, where they secure buy-in from local leaders by presenting gifts and educating community members about the legal consequences of domestic violence. By sensitizing communities and establishing support systems, Isaac's organization has successfully reduced violence in marginalized areas.

Looking ahead, Isaac envisions expanding Mordacai Care Foundation's impact by establishing a GBV survivor care center and supporting vulnerable orphans. He also plans to establish a presence in the United States to further their advocacy efforts globally.

I was inspired by Isaac's commitment to creating positive change and his innovative approach to addressing gender-based violence. I look forward to following up with him in a year to track the progress of his organization and continue supporting their important work. Thank you to all the listeners for being a part of this impactful episode of the ENYTinG Gender podcast.
