  • Estrogen Dominance Explained: Causes, Symptoms, and Solutions
    Oct 10 2024
In this special episode of "Pick Dr. Osborne's Brain," I'll discuss the significant issue of estrogen dominance, which occurs when estrogen levels are too high relative to other hormones, leading to various health problems. Symptoms include brain fog, memory issues, gynecomastia in men, and skin manifestations like cherry angiomas. We'll dive into the role of diet, particularly the impact of refined sugars, gluten, and excessive carbohydrates, in exacerbating estrogen dominance. Chronic stress and exposure to environmental chemicals, such as pesticides and hormone-laden meats, are also contributing factors.

We'll also touch on the importance of maintaining a balanced diet rich in micronutrients for proper hormone metabolism. Finally, I'll address various health concerns related to estrogen dominance, including its connection to conditions like endometriosis and the effects of birth control on hormone levels.

On this week's Dr. Osborne's Zone, the focus is on leaky gut syndrome and its connection to autoimmune disease.

Leaky gut (sometimes called intestinal permeability) is a condition where there are small gaps in the lining of your gut, which allows toxins, pathogens, and undigested food particles to enter your bloodstream. This can lead to autoimmune responses, food allergies, and the development of autoimmune diseases and poor health.

  • Ultimate Crash Course on Carnitine!
    Sep 19 2024
    My go-to Carnitine supplementation:
    https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/shop/health-focus/energy-focus/l-carnitine/

On this week's DOZ, we'll be talking about a very little discussed nutrient. It has the potential to reduce your fat, to improve your energy, to improve your workout recovery, to protect your liver, and even to lower your blood pressure.

Carnitine is a conditionally essential nutrient, especially for premature babies, elderly and people with diabetes. What does that mean to be "conditionally essential"? It means under certain situations or conditions, your body cannot produce enough of it. Thus, you have to eat more of it or supplement with more of it.

  • Cure For Thyroid Disease Discovered?
    Sep 5 2024
There are several weird things that can cause the thyroid to break down. On the next episode of DOZ, I will highlight the nutritional importance of supporting thyroid function and the role of nutrients like protein, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and iron in the production and regulation of thyroid hormone.

We will also explore the connection between gluten and autoimmune thyroid disease, as well as the impact of environmental factors like chlorine, fluoride, bromine, and flame retardants on thyroid health. And let's not forget the need for comprehensive testing and proper nutrition to support thyroid health.

  • Using Light As Medicine!
    Aug 29 2024
Sunshine is a very powerful form of medicine that is available to everyone for free. It has many benefits for our bodies, such as producing vitamin D, improving mood, enhancing skin health, and reducing inflammation. Some diseases can even be treated with sunlight.

However, it's important to be cautious and not overexpose ourselves to the sun, especially if we are taking certain medications or have certain health conditions. It's also important to remember that sunlight can have different effects depending on where we live and the time of year. Overall, getting some sun exposure is good for us, but we should always use common sense and protect our skin from sunburn.

Candida, also known as yeast overgrowth, is a common problem that can trigger autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, celiac disease, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis.

Candida can cause symptoms such as vaginal yeast overgrowth, oral thrush, toenail and fingernail fungus, heartburn, fatigue, brain fog, intestinal bloating, constipation, joint pain, sleep disturbance, hormone imbalances, and loss of balance.

Several factors can cause yeast overgrowth. Additionally, there is a connection between Candida and gluten sensitivity, where the proteins in yeast can mimic gluten and trigger an immune response.

  • Say Goodbye to Hot Flashes with These Natural Remedies!
    Aug 15 2024
My favorite menopause support supplement - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/shop/supplements/general-health/ultra-balance/
    It contains:
    - Chaste Tree Extract – an “adaptogenic herb,” with the ability to help support healthy hormone levels.
    - Black cohosh – known to help reduce occasional hot flashes, vaginal dryness, night sweats, and other symptoms related to menopause.
    - DIM (diindolylmethane) and Brassica oleracea – These vegetable extracts from the Brassica family (which includes broccoli and cabbage) help maintain safe estrogen levels by aiding the conversion of dangerous estrogen fractions to more favorable metabolites and by promoting restoration of healthy hormone ratios.
Calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, and more.

Menopause is a normal part of the aging process, and usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 60. Often times woman are placed on prescription estrogens for birth control, for pre-menstrual symptoms (PMS), and for menopause symptoms (hot flashes…).

Doctors will frequently prescribe estrogen pills without measuring for the presence of hormone dysfunction to treat the above symptoms. During this episode of Dr. Osborne's Zone, I'll discuss gluten and menopause, along with lifestyle strategies that can help you manage your symptoms.
