Discussing the news and events with children

  • Summary

  • In this episode, Gemma Kenny talks about how we tackle what is in the news with children, depending on their age and development stage. Gemma shares content and advice for teachers to help them start these often difficult conversations. Gemma is a Primary School and Special Education Needs Teacher from Sydney, Australia.  After teaching in Australia, Sweden and United Kingdom she saw varying approaches to technology use in the classroom. Gemma saw the power technology had to enhance learning opportunities for all students and began applying it in many areas of her own teaching. Gemma is now a Producer and Curriculum Specialist at Discovery Education and is using her background of teaching to support her fellow teachers embark on their own digital teaching journeys.  She has experienced first-hand the challenges of discussing distressing global news with children and understands the difficulty in these conversations.  You can find Al at www.AlKingsley.com and Linda at www.digilinlearning.com
