  • Dana Lewis invented #DIYPS ("do it yourself pancreas system") in Nov. 2013. First an "open loop", we turned it into a "closed loop" or "artificial pancreas" in Dec. 2014. In Feb. 2015 she founded the #OpenAPS movement: an open and transparent effort to make artificial pancreas technology widely available (see OpenAPS.org; or WNYC's Only Human podcast feature: http://www.wnyc.org/story/robot-vacuum-ate-my-pancreas-diabetes/). She continues to develop tools, algorithms, and usability improvements in the open source ecosystem.
