Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

By: Dan Carlin
  • Summary

  • In "Hardcore History" journalist and broadcaster Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", unorthodox way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This isn't academic history (and Carlin isn't a historian) but the podcast's unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists has entertained millions of listeners.

brilliant podcast - my favourite source of history

I have listened to all of Dan's Hardcore history podcasts.. there are way more than the 12 on here. I purchased the others via his website and highly recommend them if you enjoyed these!
there is about 80+(most of them in excess of 1-2hrs)!
Dan is a knowledgeable, fun and humble narrator. I recall when I first heard him I didn't like the thick Amercian accent, and then it grows on you, I very much enjoy his voice now! Highly recommend!

Brilliant. Different to normal history content

I have listened to all of these podcasts several times over(there are over 50 I think, check out his website for the rest) and not every episode is exactly my cup of historical tea but they're all done very well and told in such a way that you feel like you're having a great conversation with somebody about a certain historical period. He takes a very logical human approach to telling these histories. Great listens for beginner fans of history and those more well read alike I think. Thanks so much Dan Carlin for all this work, it sparked a fire in me for history that won't be extinguished until I breathe my last!

Entertaining and thought provoking

I've listened to Dan's podcast series for years. Not only have they broadened my knowledge of history, he provides reading lists for all of his shows which take you even further. Working fulltime with family duties, the main time i get to spend indulging in my love of history is listening to Dan in the car to and from work. The quality and entertainment value derived from his podcasts more than makes up for the lack of time i now have. If you haven't heard any of his stuff, I highly recommend taking a deep dive and selecting one of his many shows on your topic of interest.
