Machine Woman, or Anastasia Vtorova, selects 5 tracks to send into space on a cassette to teach aliens about life on earth 👽
Machine Woman wears many hats. She is the label founder of Take Away Jazz Records and tireless producer of techno and experimental music, having released across labels such as Ninja Tune's Technicolour imprint, Sacred Tapes and Delsin. She is also the founder of a London-based meet-up where she brings together newer producers to hear their tracks on a Function-One soundsystem, alongside talks on the music industry.
Growing up in Post-Soviet Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, in a difficult time, we went into how she danced to Boney-M's funk and disco to take her to another place as a child. We also got into the magic of jacket potatoes, the culture shock of moving country at a young age, the inspiration of a man drawing lines in Salford, and why happy hardcore group Scooter's motto is one to live by.
Machine Woman's selections:
Boney M - Nightflight to Venus (1978)
Scooter - Move Your Ass (1995)
Actress - Hubble (2010)
Slipknot - (sic) (1999)
Ayesha - Buzzz (2023)
