  • 4 - Elephants are Better than Humans at Everything
    Feb 14 2023

    Happy Valentine's Day!

Not lying, this is the best audio quality we have had and I literally jumped for joy when I first listened back to this one. The audio quality has been weighing on me, so I am so happy to provide some quality control for once! In this episode, Allie and Courtney enjoy a classy glass of Thousand Lives Merlot, showcase Amarula Cream Liqueur, and spread the word about the world’s biggest and most charismatic land animal.

    Updates:

    - Sending good vibes to the Dallas Zoo. If you haven’t heard, Dallas Zoo has been experiencing some trespassing and animal endangerment. Someone who has since been arrested broke into the zoo and cut multiple fences protecting various species who live in the zoo. We just want to inform everyone listening to be observant and if you see something suspicious, say something.

    - Nashville Zoo’s American Association of Zoo Keepers Chapter is raising funds to support The Belize Zoo. This past November the best little zoo in the world was devastated by Hurricane Lisa. 100% of the proceeds from the sales of this specially designed Tshirt will go to the Belize Zoo to help with hurricane relief.  https://www.bonfire.com/belize-zoo/?utm_source=copy_link&utm_medium=campaign_page_share&utm_campaign=belize-zoo&utm_content=default&fbclid=IwAR1Y8OTG0bP01rcd4p2tTeZcR_491-i9B6TFskIng0y9EsAB4ZAomF2UVDU

Now let’s chat about the elephant in the room, Elephants have a hand on their nose. Let that sink in...These sensitive creatures serve as keystone species in their regions of the world, literally paving the way for the growth of their habitats. As an endangered species, poaching and human conflict are the main reasons that their populations are decreasing. • 3 - The Human-Coyote Conflict in Georgia
    Jan 21 2023

Happy New Year!! The time has come and Courtney finally gets into it about the coyote conflict in Georgia. This episode Allie and Courtney sip on Moscow mules filled with Tito’s dog-loving vodka and talk about the history of coyotes in the southeastern United States, why we should care about coyotes, what the issues are with them and how we can learn to coexist with them.

BIG UPDATE: Congress passed the Big Cat Public Safety Act and President Biden signed it into law helping to save big cats found throughout the country as well as in the wild.

Coyotes just might be the most misunderstood species in the world. As incredibly adaptable creatures with flexible diets, they can be found throughout most of the country. In the southeast, however, coyotes have no real competitor in nature to help maintain coyote populations, because humans eradicated red wolves in the wild. By the 1970s, coyotes had the opportunity to swoop in and take the role of apex predator in the region. Listen to the episode to get a better understanding of coyote nature. Below you can find the links for some of the things we talk about in this episode. Thanks for listening!

  • 2 - Conservation Inspiration Storytime
    Nov 30 2022
Hello and Welcome back! Think we got the sound figured out…maybe not… it’s me. I’m the problem :). We wanted to dedicate an episode to introduce ourselves a little more and talk about our journeys to becoming zoo keepers and maybe even peek into our dreams for the future. We get asked this question often while giving keeper talks and interacting with zoo guests at work. We talk about how it all started for each other, where a lot of our passions and inspirations are rooted, and the opportunities we have been given. Throughout our experiences, we want to thank all the organizations, facilities, schools, friends, educators, communities, and animals that paved this path for each of us. Big shoutouts to Berry College, the University of Georgia, and of course, Miami University. Below you can find the links for some of the places we talk about in this episode. • 1 - Pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act!
    Oct 14 2022
Hello friends! Welcome to Conservation Chasers! This is our first episode, so bear with us while we work out the sound kinks. We’re Allie and Courtney, two zoo keepers and best friends with a passion for educating and informing others about conservation issues. With H.R. 263, otherwise known as the Big Cat Public Safety Act, having made its way into the senate, only to get stalled by a senator from Oklahoma, Allie dives into the issues surrounding this bill and why it is so important that it passes. In this pilot episode, you will learn what the issues are and what you can do to help. Number one way to help out big cats across the globe: CONTACT YOUR SENATORS! Edit: There are around 5,000 tigers in the U.S., not 7,000-10,000. Sorry, the site I used was unreliable! Here is the link to SUPPORT the B.C.P.S.A!
