  • Summary

  • Not all albums stand the test of time, but plenty do and Australian music critic Stevie Nix will bring one to you each week. He'll cover all eras and most genres and tell you why each record is so revered and, equally, why it deserves to be. And he only uses six songs to do it.

  • On The Beach by Neil Young
    Nov 21 2024

On the Beach is often hailed as Neil Young’s most enigmatic, introspective and emotionally resonant work. Released in the wake of a tumultuous period in his life, the album emerged as a stark contrast to the polished folk-rock of Harvest and the commercially successful material that had defined much of his earlier career.

    Featured songs:

    Walk On
See The Sky About To Rain
    Revolution Blues
    For The Turnstiles
    On The Beach

  • Yeezus by Kanye West
    Nov 14 2024

Kanye West’s Yeezus is an album that defies convention, pushing the boundaries of genre, lyricism and sound. Released in 2013, it marked a radical departure from the lush, maximalist production of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the soul-sampling warmth of 2004’s The College Dropout. Instead, Yeezus embraces harsh, industrial beats, minimalist aesthetics, and abrasive, confrontational themes. It’s polarising, intentionally provocative and raw in a way that no other Kanye West album had been before or has been since.

    Featured songs:

    On Sight
    Blood On The Leaves
    Black Skinhead
    I Am A God
    New Slaves
    Hold My Liquor

  • Sign O' The Times by Prince
    Nov 7 2024

Released in 1987, Sign O’ The Times came at a pivotal moment in Prince's career, following the dissolution of his band, The Revolution, and several ambitious, unrealised projects. Despite the turbulence, Prince created a record that effortlessly spans genres — blending funk, rock, R&B, pop, and experimental sounds — while addressing personal, political, and spiritual themes with a fearless honesty.

    Featured songs:

    Sign O' The Times
    Starfish And Coffee
    The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker
    If I Was Your Girlfriend
    U Got The Look
