Benched The Podcast. Chapter 12 – Show Notes:
We returned from yet another Summer Break right smack dab in the middle of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. We’ll get to that in a moment, but Chapter 12 begins with a common theme of this show…Adding flavor to sports announcing. That takes us to Savannah where the Savannah Bananas play as part of the Coastal Plain League. Last week player Bill LeRoy walked up to the plate with not only a bat in hand, but also a wireless microphone, and proceeded to introduce himself to the crowd and serve as his own hype-man! We have the audio and it’s spectacular. How did he do? Homerun? Strikeout? Hit play and find out!
Next, we got our Olympic talk on with some controversy that struck the equestrian competition. Now while none of us have ever owned or regularly ridden horses, we can imagine that from a horse’s point of view, a statue of a life-sized sumo wrestler crouching in an aggressive manner right next to an obstacle you’re supposed to run up to, might cause a horse to say ‘fuck that’. That of course led to our three loveable hosts to debate how to get the fattest one of them to dress up like a sumo wrestler…for the good of the ‘brand’.
Lastly, after a weird robot playing basketball story, we got serious for a minute and debated where breaking the 3-minute mile falls on the list of all-time great human athletic accomplishments. Pretty cool discussion, especially since it allowed us to talk about the US Men’s 4x100 relay team that US great Carl Lewis called a ‘clown show’. Seriously, how do you go on with being a track and field athlete when one of the GOATS said you were worse than an AAU squad and resembled a ‘clown show’?
Also added an outtake at the end. Great to be back and we’ll see you next week for Chapter 13. You can find us on all social platforms @wearebenched
