  • Summary

  • We have plenty of people who need care, for a multitude of reasons, and in a multitude of ways. Luckily, we humans have a high propensity to care for one another, with unpaid carers stepping up to support those in need everywhere and anywhere. Carers are an irreplaceable part of the health economy, with unpaid carers providing 2.2 billion hours of care Nationally in 2020, saving the Australian Government $77.9 billion annually. In South Australia, 245,000 people are living as unpaid carers, including up to 30,000 young carers between the ages of 5 and 25. Matt, Anna, and Tim talk to Sharon Tentye, executive manager of service delivery at Carers SA, about recognising carers and supporting them in their roles. Often, Carers SA supports carers just by helping them realise that they are carers and that there’s assistance available to help them do the incredible things they do for others.
