  • Summary

  • Because of course there's something racist to unearth in a contestant's past. Why on earth wouldn't there be? Why should casting and production have to vet the contestants they bring onto show after years of racism and violence perpetuated against marginalized communities? Why shouldn't we be running to accept Erich's half-assed apology? Why shouldn't we love and adore the resurgence of the Black square a la 2020? Why, why, whhhhhhyyyyyy?

In the midst of our frustration, Vic and Mi strive to hold a conversation about Blackface and it's history, this franchise's habit for sweeping incidents like these under the rug instead of resourcing themselves toward transformative justice, Erich's inability to acknowledge his actions as racist, and why we have to reassess the reliance on Black creators in this community to educate the masses. It can't just be us.
