Bishop Guli -the Anglican with Iranian roots speaking out on injustice

  • Summary

  • The Rt Revd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani has been Bishop of Chelmsford for nearly 4 years. As a woman, she's one of 18 female bishops in the Church of England out of 42 in total. She was born in Iran in the sixties and it was her early life and experiences which shaped who she is today, a church leader who speaks out with a nuanced voice against injustice for refugees as well as those who feel marginalised within their own communities. Her father was a Christian convert from Islam and she grew up in a distinct Persian Church lead by the missionary movement which is still very close to her heart. In this far-ranging interview with Assistant Editor Emma Fowle we hear her position on a range of issues including the future of the Lords Spiritual, doubt, the Middle East conflict, her training as a musician and what eventually lead her to ordination.
