For 35 years, the One World Media Awards have celebrated the world’s best journalism. We’re celebrating this milestone by interviewing some of our past winners and friends. Behind The Stories is a limited series podcast focused on the global south where you’ll hear conversations between leading journalists that get to the heart of why stories and storytellers matter. We’ll hear about how the media industry has changed, what still needs to improve and changes they’re hopeful to see.
On today's episode, we hear from Athandiwe Saba, former Deputy Editor of the Mail & Guardian in South Africa and Nokuthula Manyathi, Deputy Multimedia Editor at News 24, also in South Africa. Athandiwe tells us about the documentary she produced for the 10-year anniversary of the Marikana massacre of 2012. Nokuthula talks about the investigative podcast she produced, Exodus: Uncovering a cult in KwaZulu-Natal, which won the One World Media Podcast & Radio Award in 2021.
At One World Media, we believe that stories shape our world, it matters how they’re told. We support journalists and filmmakers across the global south to tell underreported stories that inform and connect us all.
