Bay Area Jails and Covid-19

  • Summary

  • Jails and prisons hold one of the most vulnerable populations in our society. Some people argue that jails and prisons are ticking time bombs, where the virus can spread rapidly. In this podcast episode, Carina Gallo interviews Amina Azar about the conditions in jail during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amina Azar is a Criminal Defense Investigator at the Contra Costa Public Defender's Office. She is also the secretary for the Contra Costa Public Defender's Association. Amina has prior experience working in immigration defense and post-conviction capital defense work. She trained as a domestic violence counselor and is fluent in English, Swedish, and Urdu. Amina's interest in criminal justice stems from the belief that no one should be defined by the worst act they commit.
