Balancing the Load

By: Caroline Brunne
  • Summary

  • What does mental load look like to you? Mental load looks and feels different for everyone, but what we know to be true is that mental load is invisible. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist, but it does mean that it isn’t necessarily visible to the people around us. Our mental load remains out of sight, until we utilise the power of language, to give our mental load and the struggles it can cause us, a voice. Together with some incredible guests, we will be unpacking what mental load means to each of us. How it impacts our day-to-day lives and how we as a collective can support each other, creating a stronger bonded community through sharing the struggles of our mental load and what strategies we can utilise to overcome it. It's time, together let's start Balancing the Load.

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the words mental load? Is it your to-do list? Is it the things that creep into your mind as you try to go to sleep at night? Or is it the cognitive load that you carry for the people in your life that you are responsible for? Mental Load can mean different things to different people.

What I know to be true, is that Mental Load is generally invisible. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist, but it does mean that it isn’t necessarily visible to the people around us.

Our mental load remains out of sight,  until we utilise the power of language, to give our mental load and the struggles it can cause us, a voice.

Together with some incredible guests, we will be unpacking what mental load means to each and every one of us.

I personally have a deep interest in understanding what mental load means to other women similar to me, and I want to open this conversation to gain an even broader understanding of what mental load looks like for the many diverse and individual members of our community.

How it impacts our day-to-day lives and how we as a collective can support each other. How we can create a stronger bond as a community through sharing the struggles of our mental load and what strategies we can utilise to overcome it.
