    Bio for Leslie Garrison

    Leslie Lynette Garrison is a native of New Orleans, LA.

    Leslie matriculated at Grambling State University in Grambling, LA, Fall 1989 - Summer 1992 where she received a B.A. degree in Graphic Arts/Design and a minor in Public Relations. Leslie went on to receive a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern LA University and a certification in K-8 Mathematics Leadership and Administration from the VA Dept. of Education, University Cohorts Program.

    Leslie is currently the Sr Outreach Coordinator for the Heliophysics Division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. She is responsible for working with youth groups, the general public, educators and pre-service teachers across the United States and abroad. She is a member of the NASA Space Science Education Consortium (NSSEC) and the NASA Goddard Speakers Bureau. Leslie supports several NASA education groups such as the NASA Goddard STEAM Innovation Lab, the NASA Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) and NASA Headquarters Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP).

    Leslie has received numerous recognitions for her skilled and talented leadership in providing NASA unique STEAM educational professional development trainings. Prior to her career at NASA Goddard, Leslie worked as a K-8 Mathematics Administrator and Specialist in the state of Virginia, an elementary teacher and a Graphics Design Developer for an engineering firm. Leslie has received numerous awards and recognitions for her outstanding work as a professional development facilitator, pre-service teacher mentor and rising minority graphics designer.

    Leslie is a member of several service organizations which includes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and International Society of Education in Technology (ISTE).

    Leslie enjoys reading, drawing, hosting parties, and running.  She has two quotes on her bedroom door and office desk that guide her thoughts about life and living, “It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” – Lena Horne and “Beautiful is how a woman lives. Beauty is in the mind, not in the mirror.” – Della Garrison (her mother)
