In this episode of The Whole Truth: Motherhood and the Writing Life, Nadia Mahjouri chats with Ariane Beeston, psychologist, mother, former child protection worker and author of Because I’m Not Myself You See - a memoir of her experience and recovery from postpartum psychosis.
In this chat we discuss how sleep deprivation and vicarious trauma from her time as a child protection worker led her to find herself on the other side of the therapeutic relationship- and an inpatient at a mental health clinic, suffering from postpartum psychosis. We chat about how hard it was to tell the truth about what was really going on - and how long it took for her friends and family to realise how bad things really were.
We discuss Ariane’s experience of writing the memoir and how she looks after her mental health now she's on the other side.
