All about Aortic Stenosis

  • Summary

  • A healthy heart beats around 100,000 times a day. Your heart’s job is to supply oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body. It does that by pumping blood through four heart chambers with the help of four heart valves that open and close with every heartbeat. The aortic valve controls blood as it flows out of the heart and to the rest of the body. But there is also a disease that occurs in this Aortic valve, that must be taken notice of sooner than later. Aortic Stenosis or AS is a disease where the valve leaflets become stiff and thickened and have a difficult time opening and closing. This makes your heart work harder to pump blood through your body. This affects your health and limits your normal daily activities. If left untreated, severe AS can lead to heart failure or even sudden death. In this episode, Dr. Anoop Agarwal talks to us about what happens when your aortic valve becomes diseased (stenotic). Tune in to know more about this disease and who can get affected by it.
