Aaron Goldsmith Visits 889 The Bridge (EDITED Interview)

  • Summary

  • Thinking of the all time greats of Seattle Mariners broadcasting, your mind probably rings back the name Dave Niehaus. Just a few window panes to the right, a mainstay now carries on Niehaus's legacy in the booth calling Mariners games. A St. Louis kid, Aaron Goldsmith never thought of broadcasting until moments after graduating with a history degree from Principia College in Illinois. But after numerous (and arduous) years making his way up the rungs of the broadcasting ladder, bouncing from an independent baseball teams to minor league teams like the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox, he'd receive the experience and improvement that put him (and to his surprise) in Seattle in 2013. Coming up on his eleventh season casting play-by-play for the M's, Goldsmith has definitely cemented his spot in Mariners broadcasting.

In our in-person interview, Aaron and I got to chat about his broadcasting journey, why he enjoys local broadcasting compared to national events, the keys to mastering mechanics and "feel" on the air, why he didn't take a lucrative position as lead broadcaster for the St. Louis Cardinals, and much much more.
