  • Summary

  • This American neo-noir, psychological thriller, tells the story of Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, who are sent to an asylum on a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a patient committed for murdering her two children. It is based on the 2003 novel by American writer Dennis Lehane. Lehane sought to write a novel where the main characters are in a difficult position and lacking 20th-century resources such as radio communications, to aid them in their journey. He described the novel as a hybrid of the works of the Brontë sisters and the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers and hoped that it would be an homage to Gothic settings, B movies, and pulp.
