Islam places great emphasis on friendship, especially friendships that are rooted in the remembrance and love of Allah. Since our friends influence us greatly, we should select those people who remind us of Allah. This episode with Fatou is very special to me for many reasons, for one, the episode was recorded in her living room, and two I flew to Boston just to have this sit down with her, that's how special she is to me, and how important our friendship is to me.
In this episode, Fatou and I discussed our definition of friendship, and our friendship deal-breakers, as well as the different qualities we both look for in a friend. I'm a firm believer that you are the average of your five closest friends. And I also believe that our children are watching the friends that we keep. The greatest indicator of what their friends will be and the types of relationships that they will have.
Fatou and I also discussed how important it is for us to pass down some of our friendship traditions to our children, just like our parents did, and are still doing for us. it's one thing to have a friendship with someone, it's another thing to see your family befriend that person and commit to the friendship as much as you do. This is a friendship that means the world to both of us, and my hopes and prayers are that Allah continues to strengthen our relationship for the better, may we continue to model this Incredible friendship for our children. Ameen!!!
