Liesel Jones stands as one of the world's greatest female swimmers, boasting an illustrious career. With seven World Championship titles, nine Olympic medals, ten Commonwealth Games gold medals, 14 individual world records, and 23 national titles, her swimming prowess is nothing short of legendary.
Remarkably, Liesel's journey began at the tender age of 15 when she became the youngest member of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Swimming Team, securing her place as one of the youngest Olympic medalists in Australian history. Her success story continued in Athens and Beijing before reaching its pinnacle at the 2012 London Olympics, where she concluded her career on a high note, clinching a silver medal in the 4 x 100m medley relay and becoming the first Australian swimmer to compete at four Olympic games.
In 2012, Leisel announced her retirement from competitive swimming, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. Her legacy continues to serve as an inspiration for aspiring swimmers, and she remains a source of immense pride for Australia.
Beyond her exceptional achievements in the pool, Liesel was honored with induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2015 for her significant contributions to the sport of swimming, by day she's a student of psychology and, by night a radio host and co-authored a must-read biography titled 'Body Lengths.'
In this episode, we dive into the courage, fear and determination that drives Leisel's champion mindset even today. She openly and honestly shares her own mental health battles and triumphs. Her resilience, both in and out of the water, is a testament to her indomitable spirit.
