Liam Blackford has always had a bright future in the game. He first represented Victoria and Under 12s and his junior career was filled with selection national team after national team all through the age groups. In 2019 alone, as a 15-year-old, he captained Victoria Country at the 15 & Under National Championships, represented the Cricket Australia Under 16s at the National Under 17 Championships, and then represented the Cricket Australia Under 18s at the National Under 19. Championships. He made his First Grade debut for Geelong as a 16-year-old and scored 97 on debut for Victoria in Second XI at the age of 18. He was then awarded a 2-year Rookie Contract by Cricket Victoria and it looked like a fairy tale rise to the top.
Until something major happened in July 2023 that not only threatened playing cricket again but potentially his life. Liam missed the whole of the 23/24 Australian season but has thankfully made a full recovery (after many major surgeries) and has just made a return to playing.
This is an amazing story of someone who stayed positive throughout the toughest of times.
