In this special edition episode, Gillian and Tim sit down with Stephen to discuss the merger of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and the Family Court of Australia, due to take place on 1 September 2021.
They discuss the new super court, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and the imminent changes for the practice of family law in Australia. In addition, they discuss how this change will impact clients and practitioners alike, with some tips on how to manage change and adapt to the new Family Law landscape.
The Honourable Stephen Scarlett OAM RFD
Stephen served in the Army Reserve (formerly CMF) from 1964 to 2006 and retired with the rank of Colonel in the Australian Army Legal Corps. In 1988, Stephen was appointed as a Magistrate of the Local Court of New South Wales. In 2000, Stephen was appointed as a Federal Magistrate of the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia (as it then was) and in 2013, Stephen became a Judge of the new Federal Circuit Court of Australia. Stephen retired from his Judicial Commission in 2016 and since then, has worked as a Barrister at the New South Wales Bar.
