4. Diabetes didn't stop me. It shouldn't stop you either.

  • Summary

  • I've been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 13 years now. I was diagnosed after a short and brutal deterioration period, and I remember asking myself: now what? What will my life look like from now on? I had all these dreams of a future full of adventures, and now I would have to give up on it?

In today's episode, Estelle and I will talk about what it’s like to have an active life and go on adventures with a condition such as Type 1 Diabetes. We will first explain what it is and how it affects the everyday life of people who have it. So, even if you're not familiar with the condition, we hope that you will enjoy learning what living with diabetes means. It’s cool for your general knowledge and it will come in handy if you ever meet someone who has it.

Then, we'll jump to the crunchy part where we’ll tell you how we monitor my health in the context of our rather crazy lifestyle. We love to go on adventures and by this, we mean “Physically demanding trips, off the beaten path, that are full of uncertainty.” We’ll talk about tools, habits, tips, and give you examples of everything you should NOT do with anecdotes of our previous adventures in China, Australia, or the US where things got very stressful pretty fast.

Finally, we’ll tell you from our experience how you can involve your partner and get their support in monitoring your health.

We're making today the episode I would have loved to listen to back when I was 14 and when my only question was: will I be able to?

    Enjoy the story!
