3 - The Human-Coyote Conflict in Georgia

  • Summary

  • Happy New Year!! The time has come and Courtney finally gets into it about the coyote conflict in Georgia. This episode Allie and Courtney sip on Moscow mules filled with Tito’s dog-loving vodka and talk about the history of coyotes in the southeastern United States, why we should care about coyotes, what the issues are with them and how we can learn to coexist with them.

BIG UPDATE: Congress passed the Big Cat Public Safety Act and President Biden signed it into law helping to save big cats found throughout the country as well as in the wild.

Coyotes just might be the most misunderstood species in the world. As incredibly adaptable creatures with flexible diets, they can be found throughout most of the country. In the southeast, however, coyotes have no real competitor in nature to help maintain coyote populations, because humans eradicated red wolves in the wild. By the 1970s, coyotes had the opportunity to swoop in and take the role of apex predator in the region. Listen to the episode to get a better understanding of coyote nature.
