    Dr. Burford-Mason explains some of the negative effects of too much added sugar – higher blood pressure, weight gain and generalized inflammation. She describes how the rapid absorption of sugar into the bloodstream causes a brief energy boost, followed by a crash, and how this causes cravings for more sugary foods, which can affect focus and concentration and trigger anxiety.

    Aileen’s Biography

    Dr. Aileen Burford-Mason PhD is an immunologist and cell biologist and an expert in evidence-based nutrition. She lives in Toronto.

    Formerly Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, her many research papers have been published in leading medical and scientific journals.

    Aileen maintains a busy downtown practice in orthomolecular nutrition, an approach to health and healing that uses diet and nutritional supplements for healthy aging and the prevention of disease. 

    She also teaches popular continuing medical education courses for doctors and other healthcare practitioners on the evidence-based use of diet and nutritional supplements in clinical practice.

    She is the author of three best-selling books on health and nutrition
