#2: What Does Cannabis Do to the Body? — Understanding the Endocannabinoid System, How Cannabinoids interact with our Body

  • Summary

  • Welcome back to our second episode, where we explore what cannabis does to the body with our resident expert guest, Gianni. In this episode, we cover the different experiences of using cannabis, methods of consumption, potency of the strain, and how an individual's tolerance can impact this. We explore the effects of medical cannabis, the endocannabinoid system (using the lock and key analogy), how cannabis interacts with this system to produce various effects in the body, and the safety of using cannabis.

In this episode, we welcome back our resident expert guest, Gianni Del Rosario-Makridis, who is a plant enthusiast and a final year Ph.D. candidate in the genetics of medicinal cannabis at La Trobe University. Gianni's work is dedicated to discovering new and exciting therapies for treatments by unlocking the therapeutic benefits of plants. He graduated with first class honours in botany in 2017 and has been researching cannabis trichome genetics full-time as a Ph.D. candidate since then. In addition to being an academic teaching plant-based molecular biology to undergraduates, Gianni is also a scientific consultant in the cannabis industry with experience as a cultivator for one of Australia's largest cannabis companies. He brings a wealth of expertise in both the science and commercial sides of medical cannabis to our show.
