#126 - How To Discover What You Really Want

  • Summary

  • How To Discover What You Really Want Do you often find yourself unsure of your life's direction? 😕 You're not alone! In this week's episode of 'Right Your Own Story,' I present a potent life coaching exercise that can help you unearth your true desires and establish clear goals. 👉 Timestamps: 00:00 - Introduction 00:45 - The Technique 01:33 - Some Examples 03:39 - Things To Avoid This exercise can bring a sense of clarity and purpose to your life. 🎯 You see, "I Don't Know What I Want" is a phrase I often hear as a therapist. And this 'not knowing' can cause stress, confusion, anxiety, resentment and a whole lot more. "If I only knew" is another phrase that often crops up. So, how do you discover what you really want? In this video, I will show you an exercise so you will know how. The phrase 'I don't know what I want' will become a thing of the past for you, replaced with a sense of clarity and direction. For this exercise, all you need is a pen and paper. Be aware of its simplicity - It's simplicity is really its genius. The Steps: 1. Make a list of all the things you already know about - The things you don't want. 2. Really empty the tank here, don't miss anything out. That part is crucial. 3. Then, go to your first 'Don't Want' and ask yourself, 'If I don't want this, that means I must want X", and fill out what X is. Some examples: I don't want to work shift - I do want a 9-5 job instead I don't want a long commute to work - I want to work closer to home (how close?) I don't want to feel X - I want to feel Z instead I don't want to weigh X - I want to weigh Y I don't want to live in a city - I want to live in the countryside (where EXACTLY) With your 'Do Wants', be really clear with your answer. For example, 'weighing less' is far too vague. What is the exact weight? By flipping these 'don't wants' into 'do wants,' you'll be able to identify what truly matters to you and create a roadmap for achieving your goals. Summary - In this video, you'll learn: Why it's so hard to know what you want and how this blocks your path to success. A step-by-step guide to identifying your goals using the "don't want" list exercise. And real-life examples of how this exercise can help clarify your desires and unlock your potential. Ready to take control of your life and start going after what you really want?
