Please tell us a little bit about yourself and how you became a birth photographer.
Linnea is from Switzerland and moved to the US once she met her husband and worked on building a life here in Co then moving to GA through much difficulty she found photography as her dream career.
How is birth photography different from other styles of photography?
No posing and very documentary style
What measures do you have to have in place to make sure you can attend the birth? (babysitter on call, how long are you on call for, how long are you with the client)
Scheduling, babysitters for her family, and working with other birth photographers to cover her.
Choosing the images to deliver: number of images, inclusive or not, more raw images showing crowning or not?
How much in advance should a client book you?
Do you need any certifications?
No certifications needed, but experience is a must. Attending a birth with a doula can help with your expectations.
How do you advertise for that and where you get most of your clients from?
What`s your client workflow? Do you partner with hospitals?
Working with doulas has helped and word of mouth, and people that find me for my work.
What if you don't make it to the birth? Do you have a refund policy or exchange for different sessions?
If it’s the photographer’s fault that she can’t make it then yes i’ll refund, but it just depends on the case.
Do you use any artificial lighting? Tell us about the equipment you use and recommended settings?
Mostly using ambient lighting and trying not to interfere with the mood and vision that was set by the parents.
How close to the client can you be during the birth? Are you allowed to shoot video too?
Do you leave right after the birth? Stay for about 2 hours after birth but it all depends
What other details do you look for to document besides the actual birth?
Details around them, their support people, care team, to tell a bigger story of their labor and birth.
What is your turnaround time to deliver images and how many photos do you deliver?
At least 400 photos. Sneek peeks the day after and the rest about 4 weeks later
Do you include albums / prints?
What characteristics should a birth photographer have? And how should a client choose their birth photographer?
Ask to see a gallery of previous birth, make sure the photographer knows how to take photos in different lighting scenarios, back up plan, multiple cameras...
Do you work as a doula as well during the process or should a doula come along?
