Per questo deve però attendere lo scoppio della Seconda guerra mondiale, quando in Jugoslavia trafuga,per conto dell'esercito, l'oro del re Pietro. Fascistone d'indole, dopo l'8 settembre si unisce alle fila dei Repubblichini, ma al momento giusto aiuta anche i partigiani. Un doppio gioco spudorato che gli spalanca interessanti prospettive quando tacciono i cannoni.
