  • Oriundo de Yataity en el Guairá, habría nacido en 1827; se incorporó a la milicia en 1845, siendo destinado a la Compañía de Artillería del Batallón N° 1 de guarnición en la capital. Ese destino marcaría definitivamente su carrera militar. Fue con Bruguez el más brillante artillero del Ejército.
    Bruguez, Roa y la oficialidad de Marina instalaron los emplazamientos de artillería en la fortaleza de Humaitá e Itapirú.
