    人間の罪と暴力に満ちた世界を見るに耐えられなくなられた神は、息あるものをすべて滅ぼそうと決意されました。今日でも、神が地に下された恐ろしい裁きによって滅ぼされた動物の化石や痕跡が、高い山々の頂から深い峡谷の底に至るまで世界中の岩の中に残っています。 来たるべき裁きは火による滅びになると神は約束しておられます。新約聖書のペテロの手紙　第二　3章10節には、次のように記されています。「主の日は盗人のように襲って来ます。その日、天は大きな響きをたてて消え失せ、天体は燃えて崩れ、地とそこで造り出されたものは溶け去ってしまいます。」
