    Τό ονόμα του Παλαμήδη ετυμολογείται ως εξής:

    1) Πάλη (άμμος) + μήδος (επινόηση) = αυτός που επινοεί στην άμμο (γράφει δηλαδή πάνω στην άμμο)

    2) από τό ρήμα παλαμάομαι = σχεδιάζω επιδέξια, μηχανεύομαι κατά τρόπο αριστοτεχνικό, επιχειρώ με επιτηδειότητα
