About this listen

And I have done more than just simply get by

So much more than escape or survive

Through the galvanisation of love, time and patience

I’ll take hold of my story and thrive

After life that was seldom what life ought to be

Through laughter and love I’ll be whole

This story is mine from the cover to spine

And the narrative I will control

Whether she’s writing letters to her younger self, advocating for women’s rights or adapting fairy tales to process an abusive relationship, Len’s voice is bold, unashamedly frank and unmistakably hers.

The poems in this collection, both funny and fiercely feminist, announce a formidable new talent. Moving deftly between English and Scots, poyums is as approachable as it is affecting.

Onstaundin

An incredibly real, bold and raw collection - reminds me of the greats like Màiri Mhòr nan Òran

Emotional and Raw

These poyums are written and performed with so much raw emotion that I was drawn upon the journey of Len Pennie, and given so much insight to that which she has seen and experienced. It was beautiful and talented yet also sad and infuriating by turns. I would highly recommend this audiobook

A Powerful Voice

What power and passion, Len your voice is braw lass. Thank you for speaking up for the women who are afraid to speak.

In you poyums I hear the voices of my friends, of my sisters.

To the men who wish to whinge and whine, shut the f up, sit the f down and listen, women are talking so stop ya sooking, pull yer heids in and be better.

I have followed you on TikTok for several years, and I am glad that in my purchase of your book, I could thank show a small amount of gratitude.

Confronting, sad and frustrating

It is a great book of verses. You can hear the author’s rage, sadness, frustration in her voice. It made me sad and angry that this is still happening to women. The book has made me embarrassed as a man.

Powerful, thoughtful poetry, delivered with passion

Having followed and read Len for a while, I knew to expect something great, however I was not prepared for how well this poetry would be performed!
A unique perspective told through beautiful imagery and rhyme.
