About this listen

This is a retelling of book one of Zodiac Academy from the perspective of Orion, Darius, Caleb, Seth, and Max.

The Vega twins are alive.

Those five words circle in my mind like an oncoming storm. They change everything about the future we thought had been set in stone. They challenge everything we were raised to be and the stability of the entire kingdom.

They’re coming to our academy looking for the life that was stolen from them, but we can’t let them take it back.

So much hangs in the balance and we can’t risk the arrival of two naïve princesses destroying everything we worked so hard for.

I have trained in dark magic, overcome all challenges, and stood in the shadow of Lionel Acrux for far too long already. I won’t let them come between me and his downfall.

Which means they have to go before they discover how powerful they truly are.

This is a retelling of the first book in the Zodiac Academy series from the point of view of Orion and the Heirs and should be listened to after you have finished the original story. It includes scenes from alternative points of view, as well as over 50k words of additional content and scenes which have never before been revealed. So prepare to step into the dark minds of the Zodiac boys and watch out for the heartbreak and carnage that will ensue.

This complemented the Twins' story so well

I listened to this alongside with the original telling of the story and I know that's not the recommended order but understanding more about the Heirs and why they were so horrible to the twins made it more possible to actually move ahead with this story. By the time we get some of the boys' POV in book 2, I already felt like I knew the characters quite well and found I enjoyed the character development much more than I would have just reading the Twins' story.

Off-putting performance

Fun read but the audio performer puts on the most ridiculous and off putting voices. If I hadn’t read this in tandem with The Awakening I don’t think I’d have made it through this audiobook without losing a piece of my sanity because half of the voices should come with a jump scare warning. These guys are supposed to be about 19 and they sound like they’ve been smoking a pack a day for 30 years. Awful.

recap just in time for the new book

As you probably know, there is a Lot of content with this series. So during my first read through I didn't have time to go back and read this from the boys perspective.
Honestly I didn't think they needed redemption. They were making dumb choices in my opinion which just showed they were never worth for the throne.
Rich, power, entitled boys will be enormously sh*tty. it's very realistic of what we have to deal with in the mortal realm daily.

Anyway, as I'm about to embark on the final book which was released just a week ago at the time of writing this I wanted to get a bit of a recap on our youngsters. This was a great way to remind me of the plot but not rereading the heart breaking of the True Queens again. #somuchtrauma

I also read Live and let Lionel Super recently and the 8.5 about 2 months ago in preparation.
So I'm feeling ready. In terms of this book I recommend reading after about book 5 or 6 or if you want to twist that knife in after book 7. Its good the twins really have the art of the boys down at this point. and they donated great job and patching up some of the crazy stuff that went into the first few books. before they realized where the series was heading. covers some of the plot holes ,which on my first read through, kinda took me out of it because it was so much. it's good and much more understandable and together then some of our other shadow daddy perspectives.
get in there and get this one

every story has two sides

I love how much the different perspectives change the story. they do an amazing job at creating sympathy for the bullies.

Great to get the boys' side of the story

Characters are far more fleshed out having the girls' and boys' side to the tale. The narrator takes some getting used to but definitely worth the read!

One of the best retelling books I’ve read

I read this after ZA book 4 (Shadow Princess) and I think it’s the best order to read it. After listening to this retelling, you come to terms with a decision made in the end of book 4. This book gives so much insight into the true characters of the boys and what their lives entail. Darius in particular. All I can say is I’m now ready to read book 5 after this.

Terrible narration

I'm sorry but I cannot get behind this narrator. It was terrible. Especially his attempt to voice the girls. I cringed the whole time.
The story was okay, it just drags out quite a bit. Enjoyed seeing the others POV.
