Why didn’t I read this before?
I wish I knew about your book before my baby was born. He is 2 now and only now I understand all the ridiculous things I had to hear (even from health professionals). Why is there so much pseudoscience inside health departments? As a new parent who was so sleep deprived and had PNA and PND, I would believe everyone because all I wanted was to find a solution to my problems. We are so vulnerable to misdiagnosis as young parents. This book is a gem.

Decide if this book aligns with your parenting style
As a first time mum of a newborn, I thought this book was fantastic. My baby was 3 weeks old when I listened and it covered off so many questions I had about parenting, unfortunately one of those questions related to sleep. This book encourages you to put your baby to sleep “drowsy but awake” - ahh the good old entry path to the sleep training world! This obsession with putting my baby in the bassinet awake and him falling asleep in there heightened my PPA. I wish I’d never come across this advice. My postpartum journey took a turn for the better when I trusted my maternal instincts, I fed my baby to sleep and transferred to the bassinet once in a deep sleep, and guess what! He has never woken up “confused” about where he was like this book would suggest! Feeding to sleep and ignoring all sleep training advice this book taught me was the best parenting decision I’ve ever made, there is no better feeling than nurturing my baby to sleep in the most natural way possible. So much fear mongering in this book about linking sleep cycles, but guess what! If your baby has ever slept two hours straight they are capable of linking sleep cycles! Settle your baby to sleep in a method that you find aligns with your parental instincts and don’t get caught up in the noise of the sleep training world if this doesn’t align with you as a parent. I just wish I knew what I was purchasing when I bought this audiobook. Giving three stars as there were elements of this book I found helpful as a new mum, just not those relating to infant sleep.
