About this listen
Nikita Ravenov
It was supposed to be a simple job: Tail the Italian for an evening, see if he was up to anything shady, and report back to the Bratva.
But I didn’t expect him to go into gay bars. Is someone trying to out me to the Bratva? Am I being set up?
And what the hell do I do, now that my mark knows I’m following him?
Lorenzo Ferrari
It’s insulting, really. My organization wants to do business with the Russians, but they’re putting tails on me? That’s just bad manners.
But when that tail gets a beating from his own and for failing to tell them everything he knows about me, I know something is up.
Now, we’re both in way over our heads. Our only hope is working together.
And even then, I’m not so sure we’re getting out of this.

Story
Highly Entertaining Listening.
I enjoyed the e-book of Russian crime organisation meets Italian when I read this in May 2021 so I grabbed the audiobook version because Michael Ferraiuolo was the narrator and he’s never let me down. New York Mafia negotiator Lorenzo Ferrari is tasked with getting a deal done with Bratva in California when his assigned Russian tail ends up hooking up with him in a gay bar. Not so smart for anyone to potentially out themselves in organised crime circles. From there it’s dodgy ex boyfriends, rival Mob dramas, sister-in-law cookies to the rescue, and more action than steam in another entertaining Z and Witt co-write.
Michael Ferraiuolo’s narration adds depth to the MCs. While Nikita’s Russian accent is not as solid as, say, Brad King’s, it’s more the pathos Ferraiuolo injects that works so beautifully. The amount of frustration, jaded humour, confusion and resignation that is pitch perfect for Nikita. And Lorenzo has perfectly executed smooth and empathetic tones.
Very enjoyable and addictive listening.

Great story and seed for future sequals?
I really enjoyed this. I have read a number of collaborations from these authors and they always please. I hope they see fit to make another story for these two characters. Their chemistry is strong, and the added dimension of the care by Lorenzo for Nikita as he battles his addiction is especially moving. While there are a lot of dark themes and violence in this story, there is also a lot of humour. And of course this was narrated by the incomparable Michael Ferraiuolo who always pleases and makes the 'listen' so enjoyable. I recommend this for the thrill of the story and the heartwarming relationship that developes between the two main characters. Oh and also the comeuppance that those characters who you love to hate get at just the right time in just the right way. Enjoy!!
