About this listen

A funny, irreverent, and practical guide for CEOs and their C-Suite team on developing high performing leaders without wasting the billions of dollars spent every year on leadership training. It challenges and debunks the hype around traditional leadership development methods in organizations because they don’t work!

CEOs need to stop sending their leaders out to be trained. This traditional method is not giving organizations the results they expect. Why? Because you can't learn to play together while training apart!

Like the head coaches of a sports teams, CEOs need to coordinate a workforce that actually follows leaders and executes according to the playbook of strategic outcomes. This audiobook offers a simple, down to earth approach to leadership development that has been proven to work, and costs you next to nothing.

In this audiobook, you will:

  • Define why you have leaders in the first place.
  • Create the right support for your leader’s development.
  • Identify the mentors and tormentors and what to do about them.
  • Implement a how-to guide for developing leaders in house.
  • Get the most effective ROI for your leadership development dollars.

Tonia and Roger bring an insider’s irreverence and insight to the field of developing talent and organizational effectiveness. They have invested 60 years challenging the bloody awful, expensive, and ineffective methods of traditional human resources management.

Tonia completed her Ph.D. (ABD) work in Organizational Psychology, and for over two decades, blended her academic theories with real-world operational execution in large organizations in the USA. As a vice president in two different energy companies, Tonia created organization-wide talent strategies, coached executives, and developed effective programs for in-house training. Tonia has a strong bias for action, but only the action that leads to desired results. Her motto is “If nothing changes then nothing actually changes”.

Roger spent more than 35 years in Canadian academia and industry as an organizational development specialist focusing on individual and team performance. Like Tonia, Roger shunned the traditional approach by combining a consultative problem solving with customized, on-field training. His motto is: The way out of the room is via the door. How do so many people miss that?

Tonia and Roger crossed paths in 2011 during a stint at an international energy company and partnered in a successful leadership development experiment, where the executive team was the faculty, and the entire organization was the student body. This experiment is the basis for their audiobook you Can’t Play Follow the Leader by Yourself.
