About this listen

She found The One. But when everyone wants him, can she keep him?

When there’s a ring on her doorbell, there’s only one person Edie Thompson wants it to be. The person who’s still in her heart. The person who just might be The One.

She and Elliot Owen called it quits once before – but aren’t they too good together not to try? And here he is – offering her everything she dreamed of.

But dating Elliot, an actor, is anything but plain sailing. Being an ocean apart and followed by the press is one thing, but when Edie’s friends and Elliot’s family are drawn in, things get messy. Then her boss hires a friendly face in the form of Declan Dunne, who’s there for her when times are tough, and Edie starts to wonder … are she and Elliot a fairytale come true – or a cautionary fable about getting what you wish for?

Clever, funny

Great narration that brings to life characters and a story that is well written, great with words and made me laugh. It’s a nice follow on from Who’s That Girl, but cleverly written so it’s easily a standalone story.

Thoroughly enjoyed

I love Mhairi McFarlane stories in general and this one was no different.
I did wonder if it was a sequel to a previous book I had missed though.

Great escapism

Always a good sign when you miss the story as soon as it’s done. Haven’t been so invested in characters for a long time. Loved the complexity and honesty.

Fabulous

As good as everything else she has
done. So good to hear the rest of the story! Keeps you guessing to the end.

A brilliant sequel

I'm so invested in these two characters, I could read a thousand books about them.
The performance was also excellent, nailed the sentiment and the accents.

The second part we all needed

When I think about all of Mhari’s books, ‘who’s that girl’ was one that I always felt needed a sequel. The ending was too much of a cliff hanger and it never sat right with me. Now thanks to this book everything is complete.

Disappointing

I loved the previous book featuring this couple. It was unusual, clever and funny. This follow up is a disappointment. Edie has morphed into a performative nice person who knows all the nasty or downright stupid things she does are wrong and does them anyway while battling an infernal inner monologue to justify her behaviour by acknowledging its wrongness. The story itself does not amount to much, barely progressing the plot beyond the end of the last book. And whoever edited this book needs to go back and give themselves a smack for every time a character collapsed into giggles, burst into floods of tears or brushed their own or someone else’s hair out of their face.
