I’m not an aspiring comedian, but I am an artist and musician who performs shows, I can relate on so many levels.

The True ComedySpecial was Maria Bamford All Along

I knew I would enjoy this audiobook the moment I heard that it existed. What I didn't know was that it would generate actual genuine feelings of positivity about myself (perhaps especially because this sort-of maybe somehow kind-of didn't really seem to be Bamford's original or explicit intent? Then again, I certainly don't claim to be able to decipher the twisted, arcane, fatigued machinations of the brilliant mind at work here; despite protestations, the woman clearly exhibits more than a modicum of care not just for herself but for her audience too.)

Do yourself a (Comedy) Special favour and listen to this tiny festival of laughter; you're relatively unlikely to be harmed by doing so. You might just love what you find in Maria's words... and maybe even... what you find... in yourself. But you know, maybe not, this isn't really that kind of a thing.

A spoken word comedy about comedy

Maria is always great. This is great too. Reassuring energizing and timeless. Highly recommended to all. Just do it! Purchase this audiobook. Very funny and really sweet. You’ll want to do stand-up.

Great advice that’s funny, short and sweet

Love Maria’s comedy style. This is a unique, funny and at times vulnerable self-help for artists and creatives of any kind, struggling for motivation. Fast-paced, packed full of fun and also honesty. I will go back and listen again for sure.

Good stuff

I wasn’t sure if I should get this, as I’m not really the target audience, but I enjoy Maria Bamford’s comedy so I gave it a go. It was a fun listen and served as a good pep talk to get me moving on some creative stuff. It’s only short, so it’ll be easy to pop back on again in future if I need a reminder (because I will.)

it was honest and real and celebrated the limitations we exist within she acknowledged her position in the world while being compassionate at all times

good company for an hour

I don't want to be a stand-up so that may be why I didn't really connect with the material. I found it more amusing than hilarious but Maria Bamford is a nice person to spend an hour listening to.
