About this listen

MARIE CLAIRE 'BEST BOOKS OF 2022' AND FEBRUARY PICK FOR MALALA'S LITERATI BOOKCLUB
Yinka wants to find love. Her mum wants to find it for her.
She also has too many aunties who frequently pray for her delivery from singledom, a preference for chicken and chips over traditional Nigerian food, and a bum she's sure is far too small as a result. Oh, and the fact that she's a thirty-one-year-old South-Londoner who doesn't believe in sex before marriage is a bit of an obstacle too...
When her cousin gets engaged, Yinka commences 'Operation Find A Date for Rachel's Wedding'. Armed with a totally flawless, incredibly specific plan, will Yinka find herself a huzband?
What if the thing she really needs to find is herself?

Smooth
A captivating book with a seamless flow, a skillful depiction of accents, and an accurate portrayal of the Nigerian community in London. I loved listening to how Yinka discovered herself, from her sad phase of self hate, to the cringeworthy moments of telling lies to herself and others, and the liberating moment of knowing she deserves a seat at the table. An excellent coming of age story that I'll be recommend to young women regardless of their skin colour.

We all get the same question when we reach our 30s
Such a wonderful story about growth, healing, self-love, family, friendship/sisterhood, careers etc etc. I really fell in love with Yinka's character, and I had several moments where I related with her, and then I was yelling at her, then feeling proud of her. And, thank you to Ronke for such an authentic narration.

Loved it!
I really enjoyed listening to this! I laughed outloud a lot! It touches some serious issues i.e colourism, the need to love and accept yourself, pressure for women to get married once they are over 30 and so many more! It was done is such a funny way! Great way to get the convo started
